This notice contains the information for the church service of 14 May 2023 at 10.30am in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall and important intimations.

The service will also be recorded for those who will not be able attend church, and will be made available on Youtube, Facebook and the website. If you would like a copy of the service on DVD, please email the office at

BUSY Prayer Point

Give thanks for the fun & fellowship of Easter Buzz. Our young people engaged well with the programme and enjoyed spending time with their peers and leaders.

Christian Aid Week from 14-20 May 2023. If you would like to donate to the work of Christian Aid, you can do online at:

Christian Aid Quiz Quiz sheets will be available in St Nicholas from 23 April with suggested donation of £1 – there will be a box for donations. Completed Quiz sheets to be returned to St Nicolas or any Elder by 21 May and a suitable “prize” for first name picked out of those with correct answers.

Bible Reading list from 21 May to 30 July are available in church and as an attachment on this email. Why not meet with a friend or two over a cup of coffee/tea and discuss the text together? You might be surprised by how God speaks to us all in different ways!

Early Service – a different start to a Sunday Every Sunday at 9.30am in Uphall South Church Hall – an intergenerational service where we worship God together through songs, prayer, conversations, questions, and activities that involves ALL AGES. Everyone and anyone are welcome!

Coffee/Tea after service will be served on Sundays 14, 21, 28 May in St Nicholas

Wednesday Prayer Meeting We continue to meet weekly from 6.00 – 6.45 pm in the Uphall Community Centre, School Place, where you would be warmly welcomed. Prayer requests can be passed to Sheena in church or by phone (854458) and are treated in the strictest confidence.

Travelling Well The two small groups are coming to the end of the 24 studies, “The Acts”.  Our next topic will be an in depth look at the 12 Disciples.

General Assembly The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will take place from Saturday 20 May till Thursday 25 May in the Assembly Hall, New College, Edinburgh. The Assembly will be livestreamed and can be viewed at The reports and deliverances are available at this link

Worship On Sunday 21 May Rev. Darren Philip will lead worship while Hanneke is at the General Assembly. On Sundays 28 May and 4 June Rev. Douglas McNab will lead worship while Hanneke is on leave and then leading Boghall Parish Church in worship.

Upcoming Events

Christian Aid Coffee Morning On Saturday 13 May 10-12noon in Uphall South church hall.  If you would be willing to bake or / and work for an hour in the kitchen, serving teas or work on the stall please speak to Sandra Darby or Myra Macpherson.  The hall will be open from 6-7pm on (Friday 12th) to receive donations.

Toccata Choir – An evening with the Toccata Choir in Broxburn Parish Church on Saturday 13 May 2023 at 7.30pm. Tickets available at the door or from Choir Members, please visit

Holmes Gardens service on Sunday 14 May at 3pm.  Strathbrock has responsibility for this service.  Your support will be welcome.

The Guild The Guild syllabus planning meeting will be held on Tuesday 16 May at 2.00 in the Open Door. Any suggestions can be given to myself, or any guild member.

Pentecost Service – Council of Churches Sunday 28 May at 7.30pm in Uphall South Church.  All welcome.  There will be a retiral offering for the Scottish Bible Society. Tea and coffee will be served after the service.

Safeguarding Training Sessions  Safeguarding training Sessions are available for all who need training when working with young people or vulnerable adults. The sessions are for all who need to refresh their training (Trustee) or for those who need to do training for the first time (Introduction).

Broxburn Baptist Church Coffee Mornings Every last Thursday of the month at 10.30am in Broxburn Baptist Church.

SOYA Social Work and our SOYA young folks continue to be grateful for your donations of food and toiletries to them over what has been a really difficult winter.  Please continue to leave your donations either in church or in the Open Door. Thank You.

UKRAINE UPDATE  Delighted to post that, as at Wednesday 3 May, we have delivered an incredible grand total of 200  bags of clothes, boots, shoes, etc.  And to date we have also delivered over 120 packs of disposable nappies, which are desperately needed, not only in Ukraine, but in many of the other war-torn countries currently supported (such as Lebanon, where the charity supports a large refugee camp).

Your donations are very much appreciated by the volunteer staff in Edinburgh, so please continue to give as you are able.  As always, I am happy to collect anything you may have.  My phone number is 07546 087230.

The Girls’ Brigade on Monday nights in Uphall South Church Hall at 6.30pm.  All girls welcome.  We will be on holiday on 8 May

The Boys’ Brigade at 6.00pm on Thursday nights in Uphall South Church Hall.

Tuesday House Group will meet on Tuesday 30 May at 2.15pm at usual venue.

Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat.

Prayer Cross Issued monthly on the 1st Sunday of the month (see attachment). Please use the topics as a guide for prayer throughout the month. If you have difficulty accessing the cross, please contact the office. There are printed copies of the prayer cross available in church.

Prayer Chain The prayer chain is available for urgent requests which are treated in strictest confidence. Please phone Sheena Carroll 01506 854458.

Flower calendars If you wish to donate flowers and have a particular Sunday on the calendar, please contact Dinah or Alison or write your name on the calendar on the noticeboard.

Foodbank Thank you for your continuing donations to the foodbank. The foodbank runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 12.30-2.30pm. Volunteers are needed for the Thursday. Please get in touch with the foodbank if you want to volunteer. Our present needs are tins of custard, rice puddings, noodles, vegetable stock cubes, UHT milk, toilet rolls, Domestos and spray disinfectant.  Please leave in the Open Door or in whichever church is open.

With the food with which they are supplied, some of our clients do not have enough strong carrier bags. If you have any spare STRONG carrier bags you can donate, please pass to Myra, Harry, the Church or the Open  Door. Thanks

Bottle tops and stamps are still being received for recycling please leave in church or the open door.
