We are delighted to report that on 15th August our Edinburgh charity sent off a Container lorry holding 9.5 tons of clothing, boots, shoes, woolly hats, nappies. Barring any border delays, the lorry is scheduled to arrive at the Syrian refugee camp in Arsal on the Lebanese/Syrian border in around 28 days. The latest news coming from Arsal is that there are more than 15000 refugees there and with very little to protect them from the extremes of temperatures, especially in harsh winters, their need is very great.
A new container is already on site ready for packing, so please keep your donations coming. On Wednesday 30 August, David and I delivered a further 16 bags bringing our total donations to date to 396 bags and 482 packs of nappies – not to mention an unnumbered amount of food tins and drinks cans to sell for scrap metal. Thank you so much everyone. As always, please call me (07546 087230) if you need me to collect or if you have any questions. Donations can still be left at the open church or at the Open Door.
SOYA Recently there has been a wonderful upsurge in the number of donations, both of purchased items and of money which has allowed a greater than usual number of bags to be passed to Social Work for our young people. We are especially grateful for these contributions at such a time of constantly rising prices in our supermarkets. Thank you so much. Donations can continue to be left in the open church or in the Open Door for collection.
Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat. We are in need of new volunteers please call in for details.
