This notice contains the information for the church services of 18 February 2024 at 10.30am in St. Machan Church, Ecclesmachan and important intimations.

Church Services for the month of February in St. Machan Church

Church Services for the month of March in St. Nicholas Church

For the month of March, we will celebrate comminution on Sunday 3 March and worship in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall, on Sundays 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 March.

Coffee/tea will be served after the service on Sunday 18, 25 February. If you would be willing to help with tea/coffee in February after the service, please speak to Myra Macpherson.

The Guild on Tuesday 20 February at 2.30pm in The Open Door. Please bring along something old and something new!

 

World Day of Prayer on Friday 1 March in St Nicholas at 2pm.

 

Services in care homes If you would be willing to attend any of these services, please speak to Myra Macpherson.

Broxburn Care Home service is on Sunday 3 March at 3pm

 

Reading in Church Please contact Carol at the church office if you used to read in church and would like to start again or if you have never read in church and would like to give it a go. Any help will be much appreciated! We are becoming short of readers and asking the same people to do it more frequently than we used too.

 

The Leprosy Mission February is the time when we think of this charity.  A sincere thanks to all who support this mission. Please leave your blue boxes in the church or hand into the Open Door.  Thank you.

 

Lent Bible Study on ‘Finding Jesus in the Psalms – a Lenten Journey’ by Barb Roose will be led by Hanneke for six weeks before Easter. The sessions will be on Tuesdays from 10.30-11.30am in Broxburn Parish Church Small Hall starting on Tuesday 13 February, and then on 20 and 27 February, and 5, 12 and 19 March. The sessions will also be repeated on Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm in The Open Door, Uphall on the following dates: 14, 21, 28 February and 6, 12 and 20 March.

The Session themes are:

Session 1 – Why do we need to find Jesus in the Psalms? Psalm 2 and Romans 8

Session 2 – Finding Jesus with Us in Our Hard Places – Psalm 16

Session 3 – Finding Jesus as our Shepherd – Psalm 23 and John 10:1-18

Session 4 – Finding Jesus as our Hope – Psalm 110, Psalm 100, and Hebrews 7

Session 5 – Finding Jesus as our Strength – Psalm 69, Matthew 26, and John 18

Session 6 – Finding Jesus as our Saviour – Psalm 22, Matthew 27, and John 20

Ukraine Aid Coffee Morning A joint Coffee Morning on Saturday 17 February from 10.30am-1pm is planned in Broxburn Parish Church Hall in support of The Ukrainian Saturday St Margaret’s School, which is supported by Martin Pearce, a well-known reader in the Church of Scotland and who has links with Broxburn Parish Church. The school has met every Saturday morning since August 2023 during term time at Heriot’s School and St Cuthbert’s Church, to teach children English, Ukrainian Customs, Maths and to support them after they have lost family members and their homes in Ukraine. The Ukrainian teachers volunteer their free time to make this happen. To give something back to these teachers, a fundraising coffee morning and retiral offerings are planned to support this important work to enable them to continue. Early Service – a different start to a Sunday Every Sunday at 9.30am in Uphall South Church Hall – an intergenerational service where we worship God together through songs, prayer, conversations, questions, and activities that involves ALL AGES. Everyone and anyone are welcome!

 

SOYA Thank you to all those who continue to donate food, toiletries, and money for our young SOYA adults.  Please continue as you are able, the young folks so appreciate your help. If you need anything collected, please call Evelyn on 07546 087230.

Wednesday Prayer Meeting We meet weekly from 2.00 – 3.00 p.m. in the Uphall Community Centre, School Place.  Please consider joining us to pray for our church, community, and wider world.  Prayer requests can also be passed to Sheena in church or by phone (854458) and continue to be treated in the strictest confidence.

 

Prayer Cross Issued monthly on the 1st Sunday of the month (see attachment). Please use the topics as a guide for prayer throughout the month. If you have difficulty accessing the cross, please contact the office. There are printed copies of the prayer cross available in church.

 

Prayer Chain The prayer chain is available for urgent requests which are treated in strictest confidence. Please phone Sheena Carroll 01506 854458.

 

The Girls’ Brigade Is on Monday nights in Uphall South Church Hall at 6.30pm. All girls welcome.

 

The Boys’ Brigade 1st Uphall Company.  Is on Thursday nights at 6pm in Uphall South Church Hall. All boys welcome.

 

Foodbank Thank you for your continuing donations to the foodbank. The foodbank runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 12.30-2.30pm. Volunteers are needed.

 

Uphall South Bible Study group meet on Thursdays in the church hall, 10.30am – 11.30am. We are starting a study on the book of Romans. No books required – just please read chapter 1 from your Bible.  All welcome. If you need any more information, please speak to David or Morag Cameron (07897893304)

 

Broxburn & Uphall Museum Are looking for people to donate objects with a story to tell to display in the museum.  Objects or photos could be made in Broxburn or Uphall, owned or used by someone of local significance, or associated with a local business or local story!  To get in touch email broxburnmuseums@gmail.com or contact Sybil Cavanagh.

 

Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat.  We need new volunteers please call in for details.
