This notice contains the information for the church service of 23 April 2023 at 10.30am in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall and important intimations.

BUSY Prayer Points

Pray for safety in all of our activities.  Thank God for the willingness of those who will give of their time and energy to facilitate the various sessions.

Coffee/Tea after service coffee & tea will be serviced on Sundays 23, 30 April

Bible Reading list from 20 March to 14 May are available from today in church and as an attachment on this email. Why not meet with a friend or two over a cup of coffee/tea and discuss the text together? You might be surprised by how God speaks to us all in different ways!

Early Service – a different start to a Sunday Every Sunday at 9.30am in Uphall South Church Hall – an intergenerational service where we worship God together through songs, prayer, conversations, questions, and activities that involves ALL AGES. Everyone and anyone are welcome!

Communion We will celebrate Holy Communion during morning worship on Sunday 7 May in St. Nicholas Church. If you are watching the recording of the service later, please ensure you have your elements of bread and wine ready.

Christian Aid Quiz Quiz sheets will be available in St Nicholas from 23 April with suggested donation of £1 – there will be a box for donations. Completed Quiz sheets to be returned to St Nicolas or any Elder by 21 May and a suitable “prize” for first name picked out of those with correct answers.


Upcoming Events

Wednesday Prayer Meeting We continue to meet weekly from 6.00 – 6.45 pm in the Uphall Community Centre, School Place, where you would be warmly welcomed. Prayer requests can be passed to Sheena in church or by phone (854458) and are treated in the strictest confidence.

Joint Day of Prayer The three churches in Uphall and Broxburn (Strathbrock, Uphall South and Broxburn Parish Churches) will share a joint Day of Prayer with The Very Revd John Christie in Uphall South Church Hall on Saturday 22 April 10am-12.30pm. Please come join us in prayer as we look toward the future.

Travelling Well The two small groups are coming to the end of the 24 studies, “The Acts”.  Our next topic will be an in depth look at the 12 Disciples. If you are interested in joining others to learn more on your faith journey, please contact the Office or speak to Rachel Shepherd or Annette Frater.  If you would like more information about Travelling Well Rachel and Annette would be pleased to discuss. We expect to begin our new session in the week commencing 23 April 2023.

Middleton Hall Strathbrock has responsibility for the service on 24 April at 2pm.  You are welcome to attend if you are available.

Tuesday House Group will meet on 25 April at 2.30pm at usual venue.

Broxburn Parish Church hall   29 April coffee bar 11-12.30pm.  Come and join us for home baking and coffee and chat.

Coronation Cake The Open Door will be open on Monday 8 May 10-1pm.  Join us for a piece of coronation cake (free) and the usual refreshments.

Christian Aid Coffee Morning On Saturday 13 May 10-12noon in Uphall South church hall.  If you would be willing to bake or / and work for an hour in the kitchen, serving teas or work on the stall please speak to Sandra Darby or Myra Macpherson.  The hall will be open from 6-7pm on (Friday 12th) to receive donations.

BUSY LAST CHANCE to contribute We were delighted to hear of the birth of Arthur Thresher baby son of Hannah and David.  The BUSY Management Team are organising a gift and if you would like to contribute to this, please contact Nancy Petrie on 07742556762.

Broxburn Baptist Church Coffee Mornings Every last Thursday of the month at 10.30am in Broxburn Baptist Church.

SOYA Social Work and our SOYA young folks continue to be grateful for your donations of food and toiletries to them over what has been a really difficult winter.  Please continue to leave your donations either in church or in the Open Door. Thank You.

The Girls’ Brigade on Monday nights in Uphall South Church Hall at 6.30pm.  All girls welcome.

The Boys’ Brigade at 6.00pm on Thursday nights in Uphall South Church Hall.


We are delighted to write that as of Wednesday 12 April, a total of 158 bags have been delivered to our Edinburgh charity.  These have included around 80 packs of nappies as well as clothes, beautiful new children’s knitted clothes, boots and shoes. Tuesday House Group has resumed at 2.15pm at usual venue.

Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat.

Prayer Cross Issued monthly on the 1st Sunday of the month (see attachment). Please use the topics as a guide for prayer throughout the month. If you have difficulty accessing the cross, please contact the office. There are printed copies of the prayer cross available in church.

Prayer Chain The prayer chain is available for urgent requests which are treated in strictest confidence. Please phone Sheena Carroll 01506 854458.

Flower calendars If you wish to donate flowers and have a particular Sunday on the calendar, please contact Dinah or Alison or write your name on the calendar on the noticeboard.

Foodbank Thank you for your continuing donations to the foodbank. The foodbank runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 12.30-2.30pm. Volunteers are needed for the Thursday. Please get in touch with the foodbank if you want to volunteer. Our present needs are tins of custard, rice puddings, noodles, vegetable stock cubes, UHT milk, toilet rolls, Domestos and spray disinfectant.  Please leave in the Open Door or in whichever church is open.

Bottle tops and stamps are still being received for recycling please leave in church or the open door.
