This notice contains the information for the church service of 26 February 2023 at 10.30am in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall and important intimations.

Church Services for February in St. Nicholas For the month of February, we will worship in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall, on Sunday 26 February.

Coffee/Tea after service In St Nicholas on Sunday 26 February.

Please note: Worship for the month of March will be in St Nicholas Church, Uphall. A heating engineer has been contracted to fix the boiler in January but we are still waiting for the replacement parts that has been ordered to arrive before it can be fixed.

Church Services for March in St. Nicholas For the month of March, we will worship in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall, on Sundays 5, 12, 19, 26 March.

Communion We will celebrate Holy Communion during morning worship on Sunday 5 March in St. Nicholas Church. If you are watching the recording of the service later, please ensure you have your elements of bread and wine ready.

Early Service – a different start to a Sunday Every Sunday at 9.30am in Uphall South Church Hall – an intergenerational service where we worship God together through songs, prayer, conversations, questions, and activities that involves ALL AGES. Everyone and anyone are welcome!

Offering at Church servicesPlease place offerings in the plate at the church entrance on arrival so that the offering can be taken to the chancel at the beginning of the service. Because of continuing Covid-19 health and safety issues some of our normal routines during services cannot yet be restored and the collection of our offering by elders is one example. Thank you.

Retiring offering – A huge thank you for all the donations received towards the aid for Turkey and Syria. We managed to raise a total of £900 which will go towards Christian Aid – the Church of Scotland nominated charity for donations towards aid for the two countries.

Upcoming Events

Schools Ministry Roadshow  An opportunity  to explore school chaplaincy. The Church of Scotland Roadshow is on Saturday 25th February starting from 10.00 am.  Venue is Craigsbank Church in Edinburgh. The event is free, but you should register on Eventbrite at this link:

Session Meeting Our Kirk session will meet on Tuesday 28 February at 7pm in St Nicholas church.

Lent Conversations Five Conversations about the Christian Faith at Broxburn Parish Church in March 2023 – An invitation to everyone. The 5 conversations are based on the Bible readings that support the 5 membership vows of the Church of Scotland. Such conversations suit enquirers into the Christian Faith and those who are steeped in faith because the Christian Faith can help people cope with the challenges of life.

We will meet on the 5 Wednesdays in March (1st to 28th March) from 7.30pm to 8.30pm or on 5 Tuesdays from 10.30am to 11.30am (from 28th February to 27th March) in the Church/Church Hall. You do not have to come to all 5 meetings – just come when you can. World Day of Prayer Friday 3 March at 2:30pm in Broxburn Parish Church. We need volunteers to take part and read texts which will be provided. Broxburn Parish Church Coffee Bar Saturday 4 March from 11:00 – 12:30pm in the large hall.

Broxburn Care Home Service on Sunday 5 March at 3pm.  A few people to come would be welcome.

The Guild We will meet in the Open Door on Tuesday 7 March at 2.30pm.  For our 3rd walk down the Royal Mile with Tom & Moira.

Strathbrock Parish Church Walking Group Plan for 2023

TIME              09.30-9.35 – leaving at 9.35

We are generally back in Uphall by 12.30 or before, perhaps having had a coffee stop, depending on where we have been walking.  Occasionally we may take cars to a starting point for our walk, generally speaking we like to walk fairly locally.

Admission: FREE – for booking thickets contact www.originscotland.org. There is a suggested donation on booking.  If you would like to make a block booking on behalf of your congregation, please contact us on 0131 541 0117 in office hours and we’ll be happy to assist.

SOYA Social Work and our SOYA young folks continue to be grateful for your donations of food and toiletries to them over what has been a really difficult winter.  Please continue to leave your donations either in church or in the Open Door. Thank You.

Leprosy Mission Thanks to all who fill their blue tubs to enable me to send recently £106 to Leprosy Mission Scotland.  A big thank you to all Elspeth MacLeod.  Thank you to Elspeth for her continuing service to the Leprosy Mission and for her encouragement to us to support this work.

Wednesday Prayer Meeting  We continue to meet weekly from 6.00 – 6.45 pm in the Uphall Community Centre, School Place, where you would be warmly welcomed. Prayer requests can be passed to Sheena in church or by phone (854458) and are treated in the strictest confidence.

The Girls’ Brigade on Monday nights in Uphall South Church Hall at 6.30pm.  All girls welcome.

The Boys’ Brigade at 6.00pm on Thursday nights in Uphall South Church Hall.

Aid for Ukraine, Turkey and Syria.

Very grateful thanks to all who have offered warm clothes, etc for Ukraine over the past weeks.  Given the further urgent need in both Turkey and Syria, as well as the continuing need in Ukraine, our Edinburgh charity has now made arrangements to divide what they receive among the three areas of need.  Whatever they receive will be despatched as soon as possible and will include, as well as warm clothes for all ages and sizes, boots, welly boots and shoes, also for all ages and sizes.

Please leave as before in either church or in Open Door cafe and If anyone requires articles uplifted, please call me on 07546 087230.

Tuesday House Group has resumed at 2.15pm at usual venue.

Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat.

Prayer Cross Issued monthly on the 1st Sunday of the month (see attachment). Please use the topics as a guide for prayer throughout the month. If you have difficulty accessing the cross, please contact the office. There are printed copies of the prayer cross available in church.

Prayer Chain The prayer chain is available for urgent requests which are treated in strictest confidence. Please phone Sheena Carroll 01506 854458.

Flower calendars If you wish to donate flowers and have a particular Sunday on the calendar, please contact Dinah or Alison or write your name on the calendar on the noticeboard.

Foodbank Thank you for your continuing donations to the foodbank. The foodbank runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 12.30-2.30pm. Volunteers are needed for the Thursday. Please get in touch with the foodbank if you want to volunteer. Our present needs are tins of custard, rice puddings, noodles, vegetable stock cubes, UHT milk, toilet rolls, Domestos and spray disinfectant.  Please leave in the Open Door or in whichever church is open.

Bottle tops and stamps are still being received for recycling please leave in church or the open door.
