This notice contains the information for the church services of 9 & 16 July 2023 at 10.30am in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall and important intimations.

The service will also be recorded for those who will not be able attend church, and will be made available on Youtube, Facebook and the website. If you would like a copy of the service on DVD, please email the office at office@strathbrockparish.org.uk.

 

Intimations for this week:

Church Services for July in St. Nicholas For the month of July, we will worship in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall, on Sundays 9, 16, 23, 30 July.

Bible Reading list from 21 May to 30 July are available in church and as an attachment on this email. Why not meet with a friend or two over a cup of coffee/tea and discuss the text together? You might be surprised by how God speaks to us all in different ways!

Early Service – a different start to a Sunday Every Sunday at 9.30am in Uphall South Church Hall – an intergenerational service where we worship God together through songs, prayer, conversations, questions, and activities that involves ALL AGES. Everyone and anyone are welcome!

Coffee/Tea after service will be served on Sunday 9 July in St Nicholas

BUSY Management Team We are now looking for a new representative from Strathbrock Church to replace Peter if you would be interested, please speak to Lynne McEwen.

Holiday Hanneke will be on leave from 13-18 July and Rev. Douglas McNab will lead the worship service on Sunday 16 July in St. Nicholas Church, Uphall.

Upcoming Events

Summer Intern Our Summer Intern, Miss Morgan Henig, has sent us a introductory video, which will be showed in church on Sunday. The current Summer Programme which she is organising is as follows:

Muddy Church from 21 – 28 July in Uphall and Broxburn – more details to follow.

Prayer afternoon and evening in Uphall and Broxburn – 14 August – more details to follow.

Picnic for all three congregations together on Sunday 20 August – more details to follow.

Morgan will also set-up a joint Facebook page for the three congregations – more details will follow soon.

Flower Festival The next meeting will be held on Thursday 20 July at 6.30pm in Strathbrock St Nicholas Church.

Middleton Hall service at 2pm on Monday 24 July.

Social & Fundraising meeting Will be held on Wednesday 2 August and 1.30pm and will be in South Church Hall as BUSY are using the Open Door.

Picnic & Praise Kirkliston Parish Church is hosting their annual Summer Picnic and Praise afternoon on Sunday 6 August between 1pm-3.30pm at Carlowrie Castle. Entry is free, but booking is essential. Flower Festival with the theme of ‘Flowers and Friendship’ is being planned for 24th and 25th August times 10.30am – 3pm both days and on Thursday from 6-8pm.  This will be held in Strathbrock St Nicholas with an invitation to all churches in the area.  Help is asked for stewarding, refreshments (serving or baking) and flower arranging.  If you would be willing to assist in anyway, please speak to Wilma Gilchrist or Myra Macpherson.

Museum – Uphall and Broxburn One of the projects of the Broxburn & Uphall Town Centre Management Group is the establishment / extension of a local museum.  This project is being led by Emma Peattie from the Museum and Archive service of West Lothian Council.  Emma attended the Council of Churches meeting to share information about a new interactive display unit to be installed in the museum area of Strathbrock Partnership.  If you would be willing to be interviewed, have any photographs, or artefacts, or questions please speak to Sybil Cavanagh in the first instance.  Meeting for further details will be held in the near future please let Sybil know if you are interested in attending.

Open Door Monday to Thursday 10am until 1pm. Please join us and bring a friend for coffee and a chat.  We are in need of new volunteers please call in for details.

Prayer Cross Issued monthly on the 1st Sunday of the month (see attachment). Please use the topics as a guide for prayer throughout the month. If you have difficulty accessing the cross, please contact the office. There are printed copies of the prayer cross available in church.

Prayer Chain The prayer chain is available for urgent requests which are treated in strictest confidence. Please phone Sheena Carroll 01506 854458.

Foodbank Thank you for your continuing donations to the foodbank. The foodbank runs every Tuesday and Thursday between 12.30-2.30pm. Volunteers are needed for the Thursday. Please get in touch with the foodbank if you want to volunteer. Our present needs are , tinned cold meat, curry sauce, rice pudding, long grain rice, toilet rolls, custard, diluting juice (1l + 1.5l)

Please leave in the Open Door or in whichever church is open.

With the food with which they are supplied, some of our clients do not have enough strong carrier bags. If you have any spare STRONG carrier bags you can donate, please pass to Myra, Harry, the Church, or the Open Door. Thanks

Bottle tops and stamps are still being received for recycling please leave in church or the open door.
